Oxford Seminars on the Dalai Lama’s Ethics

This Michaelmas Term the Dalai Lama Centre for Compassion will be offering a series of seminars exploring His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s thought on ethics and related areas.

The series will be conducted by Paul Lodge, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford and Senior Research Fellow of the DLCC. It will take place from 5:30pm-7pm on Thursdays at Seminar Room East, Mansfield College with the first meeting taking place on 13th October 2016.

After an introductory session in week one, following meetings will discuss passages from the Dalai Lama’s works Ancient Wisdom, Modern World: Ethics for the New Millennium in weeks two to eight. This seminar is free and open to the public.

Those wishing to attend are encouraged to register by email to ralph@dlccoxford.org Since places are limited those who do not register may be refused admittance. We kindly request that registrations be made only by those intending to attend the whole series.

Course outline: Week 1. will give an introduction covering chapter 1 of Ancient Wisdom, Modern World: Ethics for the New Millennium. Weeks 2-3 will focus on the Foundations of Ethics examining chapters 2-5. Weeks 4-6 will look at ethics and the individual focusing on chapters 6-10. Weeks 7-8 will be on ethics and society looking at chapters 11-15.
